Matt runs into the kitchen and asks if Shauna has called, and she says no. Annie is upset that Eric ran out to do some errands and there is a lot of things to do this morning. Eric comes back in and Annie makes Eric apologize for being so late in coming back. Eric tells Annie that he thinks the Deacons are up to something at the church. Simon asks Matt to throw the baseball around for a while, but Matt says no and throws the ball back at Simon and it goes right out through the window. Upstairs, Lucy tells Mary she is worried about Jimmy Moon and thinks it's drugs. Mary tells her to stay away from Jimmy. Shauna calls the house and gets Ruthie who tells her that Matt isn't home. Shauna asks her to tell him that her answering machine isn't working so that's why he hasn't been able to talk to her. Ruthie sees Matt in the hallway but she doesn't tell Matt she just called.That night, Lou from the church calls and says they are putting out the church bulletin for Eric this weekend. Eric is once again convinced something is going on. The next day, Mary and Lucy see Jimmy in a van with other guys and some drugs. The police pull up and arrest everybody in the van, leaving Lucy and Mary there to just watch in disbelief as the police pulls a big bag of marijuana out of Jimmy's pocket.
Simon goes to baseball tryouts and is talking up a storm about how he is going to make catcher. Another kid trying out says the coach's son Is also trying out for the catcher position. Mary comes to watch Simon, and he ends up talking to the coach about how she is good at sports and it runs in the family. Mary then throws a pitch to Simon in front of the coach and he drops it onto the ground. That evening, Lucy calls one of her friends to talk about Jimmy Moon, and Shauna tries to call and gets another busy signal. Ruthie tells Matt if things don't work out with Shauna he still has her.
Shauna calls again the next morning, and once again Ruthie answers the phone and promises to tell Matt…. Again. Annie talks to Lucy and tells her to let Jimmy's family take care of him and not to get involved. At school, Jimmy finds Lucy at his locker and she says she saw the whole thing. Jimmy says he wasn't doing anything and Lucy tells him it's all her fault. He yells at her to stay away from her, then goes off down the hall with some guys. While Simon is trying out, Mary goes to talk to the coach and end up telling him that Simon would be pleased just to be a part of the team. She tells him Simon would be thrilled just to be the equipment manager.
That night, Ruthie talks to Matt and asks him to read a story. He says maybe another night because he has a paper to write. Meanwhile, Eric is in his den writing his sermon. Lucy wants to talk to him but walks by without saying anything. She talks to Annie and says she is mad that he isn't helping Jimmy Moon and is caught up in his sermon. Annie tells her that the situation with Jimmy could be very serious and asks Lucy to trust her and stay away from Jimmy.
The next day, Shauna comes by the house and Matt finds out that Ruthie has ]n't been giving him her messages. Ruthie tells him that she is afraid Matt is starting to forget about her. Shauna and Matt set up a date for the weekend. Matt tells Ruthie he is going to pick her up from school and spend the whole afternoon together. At school, Simon goes to the list of those who made the team and finds out he is the equipment manager. He frantically calls Mary at the high school and asks what she has done. Jimmy's parents come by the church and Eric proposes that Jimmy may be a police informant. They don't think Jimmy would do that, but Eric says they should ask Jimmy and try and get the truth.
Eric goes to pick Lucy up after school, but before he does, Lucy sees Jimmy and some guys huddling together across the street. Lucy follows them as they go down the street. There she sees Jimmy once again handling drugs. Eric arrives in front of the school to look for her, and just as Lucy is approaching Jimmy, the police bust Jimmy - and Lucy. Eric rushes over just as she is being hand-cuffed. When they get back to the house, Lucy tells Eric and Annie that Jimmy did indeed make a deal with the police and she is sorry for not taking their advice to stay away.
Sunday at church, Eric is giving his sermon while the congregation is laughing because his sermon is about paranoia. While he is giving his sermon, another minister, Rev. Bergen arrives and says he was the minister at the church before Eric arrived. He tells Eric he had every right to be paranoid because the congregation has been planning and scheming behind his back. In celebration of Eric's 20th year at the church, they pitched in and bought him a new desk. Eric is elated that he isn't losing his job and finds out the whole family knew what was going on.
